Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and seek refuge at the tranquil Benediktinerinnenabtei St. Hildegard which is nestled amidst the picturesque surrounds of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Also known as Eibingen Abbey, the monastery was established in the mid 12th century and has been home to Benedictine sisters. Today it is regarded as a Rhine Gorge World Heritage Site. Guests can participate in art and wine-making workshops conducted by the nuns and can even join them during prayer sessions.
The magnificent St. Bonifatius is a major tourist attraction of Wiesbaden. Designed by famous German architect and builder- Philipp Hoffmann, the church boasts of being one of the finest examples of Gothic-Revival architecture. Built in 1844, the church acts as an important Catholic parish for the local community of the city. Distinguished features of the church include the majestic twin spires that rise to a height of 68 meters (223 feet). The church also features a spectacular organ built by the renowned Orgelbau Romanus Seifert & Soh.
Tier- und Pflanzenpark Fasanerie was once a royal hunting area. Opened in 1955, its rolling hills, meadows, forest zone, lake and rivers is a haven for exotic and rare plants as well as for 50 European species. There is also a petting zoo for children. You can avail of their nature tours which are fun and informative at the same time. While touring, you get to encounter bears, lynxes, herons, wolves and many more. Later, head towards the former hunting lodge, which, now functions as a restaurant.
Credited to military historian Arnold Wirtgen, Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung also referred to as WTS, is regarded amongst Gemrnay's largest technical exhibition. Though not a museum, the site provides insight into uniforms, equipment and armament from the 19th century though its exhibits that also include tanks and aircraft. Moreover, this place is still used for the training of engineers i.e. experts in armaments and also future soldiers.
Basilika St. Kastor is a quaint church that was built by the bishop of Trier. The church has a picturesque architecture and with intriguing interiors. The place is best known for being the site where the famed treaty was signed which divided the Carolingian Empire. Inside you can find old relics, epitaphs of bishops, inscriptions and so on.
Stretching to an area of 75,000 square meters (807293 square feet), the Kurpark in Wiesbaden is a spectacular public park that has been praised by many as the most scenic park in the city. Established in 1852, the park boasts of a lake in the middle of the park where visitors can enjoy boating. Also found here is a fountain that is 6 meters (19 feet) high.
