Originally called Lake Lynn, this reservoir on Cheat River sprawls across 13 miles (21 kilometers). A trio of marinas located at the river's edge act as gateways and starting points for several activities on the lake. A few secluded areas on the lake, referred to as 'backwaters', are ideal for those who want to get away and unwind - whether through lone kayaking adventures, or through relaxed canoeing along its tranquil waters.
Friendship Hill National Historic Site was the home of American politician Albert Gallatin, a prominent politician and diplomat who served as Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Today, the site offers guided tours of the historic mansion, as well as interpretive programs that focus on the history of the Gallatin family and their impact on American politics and culture. Visitors can also explore the grounds and gardens, which have been restored to their original state and offer a glimpse into life on a wealthy estate in the early 19th century.
Meadow Run Natural Waterslides is a popular natural attraction in the Ohiopyle State Park. The natural slide, formed as a result of years of sandstone erosion, is one of the fun places inside the park. Great place to cool off in summers, the curving natural waterslide - slides from the top to the splash pool at the bottom of the Meadow Run stream. Though it certainly doesn't have a smooth surface like those in water parks, you can still enjoy the water slides with some protection.
A visit to the Forks of Cheat Winery is a one-of-kind experience. Enjoy delicious wines, explore the rolling hills and make memories forever with someone special. Built around a man-made reservoir that was constructed in the early-20th century, Laurel Hill State Park is blessed with verdant greenery. The lake itself calls for a cool swimming session, or getting a boat out in the middle to fish for some trout. Hunters get access to catch white tailed deer, rabbit and pheasants during hunting season, whereas happy campers can bunk down for the night at the campsites available here. Overall, Laurel Hill State Park is an oasis of tranquility and pristine beauty.
