"A Splendid Historic Building"
The Glebe Community Centre is one of the oldest buildings in Ottawa, and was once an important religious structure. Today it has been wonderfully restored, and is often visited by lovers of history. This beautiful Palladian building was originally intended to serve as a church, and took ten years to complete. When church attendance dropped, the structure was converted into a community center and continues as such even today. The center serves the Glebe neighborhood of Ottawa, and offers a host of community and cultural programs for the city's youth, including summer camps, art classes and workshops. At the heart of the center lies a stunning hall that is sprawled beneath the elegant rotunda above. The center also features meeting rooms, two kitchens, an art studio, a multipurpose room and a dance studio, all of which are available on hire for private events.
