Stadttheater Steyr dates back to 1898 when it was known as Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Industrie- und Gewerbe-Ausstellungshalle. It was an industrial structure and by 1924 it was the town's movie and concert hall. The current Stadttheater was built upon this great hall in 1958 and was designed by Karl Tobisch-Labotyn. It was among the most avant-garde stages of that time. Today, this theater is one of the hubs for concerts, theater and other cultural events in the city.
