Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children was established in 1887 to rehabilitate orphaned and abandoned children in the state. At one point, the building accommodated over 10,500 children. Today the site functions as the Minnesota State Public School Orphanage Museum which chronicles local history of Owatonna and features various ephemera on the children who once lived here.
