"Public Art With A Cause"

While driving down New High Street in Headington, one local home stands out. Bill Heine’s humble abode hoists a 26-foot (seven-meter) shark sculpture on its roof. Mounted head first overnight by the Oxford resident back in 1986, this unique sculpture was created to symbolize Heine’s protest against the general government’s complacency with regard to nuclear disasters in Chernobyl and Nagasaki. Albeit facing opposition from the City Council, it remains a popular landmark in town.
