Must Visit Attractions in Pacific Grove

, 7 Options Found

This Monterey Peninsula state beach is a beautiful sandy beach with rocky inlets. It features a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) long wooden boardwalk that cuts through the scenic dunes, and is popular with locals who love strolling along the coastal stretch. While visitors are encouraged to bask in the beauty of this picturesque beach at leisure, they are not allowed to collect or take home any natural souvenirs from the beach. As a protected site, no fishing is allowed in the area either. However, dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they are on a leash.

Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the best-designed aquariums in the country. A rather stand-out feature of this aquarium is the two-story tank, home to a kelp forest in which one can find sunfish, sharks, and the occasional diver tasked with squeegeeing the algae off the tank walls. Sand dabs are displayed in shelf-like tanks ideally suited to the flat fish, and a school of sardines swim in an endless circle in their cylindrical tank home. If you want to interact with some aquatic dwellers, you're invited to pet the bat rays. The jellyfish display is one of Monterey Bay Aquarium's star attractions.

The Monterey Bay Coastal Trail is a beautiful scenic trail that runs along the coastline of Monterey Bay. Stretching over 18 miles (28 kilometers) from Pacific Grove to Castroville, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a run or a bike along the trail and take in the spectacular views. There are numerous eateries located along the way, as well as places to rent a cycle or a surfboard.

One of the most scenic drives anywhere in the world, this stretch of highway runs between Pacific Grove and Carmel. You will see incredible beaches, golf courses and more mansions than you can count. Cars, pedestrians, and cyclists all make their way along this stunning stretch of road. The road snakes its way along the California coast and then through the Del Monte Forest. This drive is an absolute must for anyone visiting the Monterey Peninsula. Be sure to bring your camera.

This lighthouse, located in Monterey County, has been operating since 1855, making it the oldest operating one on the West Coast. Aside from its rich history, it offers spectacular views from its vantage point. The trek to get there is lovely, and offers stunning views of the surrounding scenery, making it well worth the effort.

This iconic beach is at the foot of 17th Street, and is known for its stunning beauty and variety of outdoor activities. From kayaking, surfing, swimming, scuba diving, windsurfing, to land activities such as beach volleyball, hiking, picnicking, and more. Bicycle rentals, public restrooms, and snack bar are also available. Lovers Point Park hosts the annual Feast of Lanterns pageant and fireworks festival.

Monarch Grove Sanctuary is a marvelous sight in Pacific Grove, with thousands of monarch butterflies migrating here in October every year. The butterflies mostly settle on Monterey pine trees, which give them the adequate amount of heat and light that they need. The butterflies mostly migrate from the north to avoid freezing winters, and form clusters in this sanctuary's eucalyptus trees. The sanctuary and its presence of butterflies is what lends Pacific Grove the moniker of 'Butterfly Town USA'.
