"Fountain of the Playwright"

The Fontaine Molière is located in at the corner of the Richelieu and Moliere streets in the first arrondissement of Paris. It was constructed in place of a larger and more cumbersome fountain in 1844 on the suggestion of Regnier of the Comédie-Française. Constructed in honor of Moliere, it is one of the first non-military monuments of the city. Created by Louis Tullius Joachim Visconti and his team of sculptors, the bronze figure of the world-famous playwright towers over the two marble women symbolizing Serious and Light Comedy.
