Corso dei Vestini

"Palaces, Churches & Bell Towers"

The Church of San Giovanni Evangelista can be easily recognized by its enormous bell tower. It is of Medieval origin, and has a pointed, Romanesque apse. The portal on the square dates from 1594 and there is another small one overlooking the exit from the Orti, with an angel. There are many beautiful buildings along the Corso, including the Dura palace and opposite, the palace of Margherita of the Hapsburg family, where the Duchess used to stay. There is also Palazzo Aliprandi, from the 18th Century, that includes the little Church of Sant'Antonio, the private chapel of the De Sterlich-Aliprandi family. It is now home to a technical institute.
