Maulbronn Monastery

The Maulbronn Monastery was constructed in the mid-12th Century and is a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. This monastery was established by the Cistercian Order of monks and extensions were made to the complex till the 16th Century. Hence, it is an epitome of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture in the Medieval Period. The monastery is fortified by thick walls and exhibits a complex network of irrigation canals and drains. Explore vaulted rooms, cloisters, cellars, refectories, a chapel and a mill from the Middle Ages. The on-site museum showcases the history and lifestyle of the monastic order as well as Medieval artworks. You can also tour the gardens, vineyards and farmlands surrounding this monastery.


Opened in 2001, the Killesbergturm is an observation tower which rises to a height of 42 meters (137 feet). Recognizable by its unique design where the curvy surface is supported by a steel net from the outside, the highest point of the tower offers a panoramic view of the city.


Schlossplatz is a famous square in Stuttgart that is also home to the New Palace. The square underwent renovation in 1977 for the State Garden Show. It was again given a touch-up during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The Jubilee Column in the center of the square was built to commemorate the silver jubilee of King Wilhelm I's reign in 1841. There are two fountains from the 19th Century with four cherubs each that stand for each river of Württemberg. Many local events take place at the square, including fairs and markets.

ZKM: Center for Art and Media

Centrally located in the city, the Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie or ZKM is a unique cultural institution dedicated to advancement in the fields of art and media. Birkenkopf is a tall hill which is located in the beautiful neighborhood of Wangen. This artificial hill was created post World War II with the rubble of the city ruins as a memorial for the locals who lost their lives. The hilltop is adorned with a cross that is a symbol of peace and happiness for the city's future. The hill also has some ruins from the war that are interesting to look at. A visit to this hill is like paying homage to the martyrs of the city. A few ruins of the war are still intact and are worth a look.

Lichtentaler Allee

The 2.3 kilometer (1.42 miles) long Lichtentaler Allee along the river Oos was developed as an exceptional park in the middle of 19th Century. The park is also a well-groomed arboretum with oak trees that have existed for more than 300 years along with various other shrubs and trees. An ideal place for a stroll at any time of the day, the beauty of Gönneranlage (added in 1952), which comprises of a rose garden and fountain, is breathtaking. With a number of hotels and mansions along the avenue and an art museum inside the park, this place makes for a serene green spot in the town.
