The Salem Abbey is a historic monastery of the Cistercian denomination which was constructed in the 14th Century by Gunthram of Adelsreute. In the early 19th Century, the abbey was secularized and thus ended the time of the Cistercian monks. The Salem Church, which used to be the abbey church, is an imposing Gothic structure that was turned into the parish church. The other abbey buildings were transformed into a royal residence after secularization and served as the home of the Baden Dukes. Later in 1920, a part of the castle turned into a boarding school named Schule Schloss Salem, which functions even today. Visitors here can avail guided tours to learn more about this really old monastery.
Dating back to the 12th century, the Sigmaringen Castle is a grandiose castle built by the Swabian Hohenzollern family. Although the castle was refurbished several times, some of the earlier remains still adorn the castle which includes the castle gate. Situated on a rock, the Schloss Sigmaringen provided a lot of security with its surrounding walls, pen roofs, round window openings and towers. This archaeological museum is spread over a huge area and reconstructions of dwellings on lake pile are dated from 4000 BCE to 850 BCE. Pfahlbaumuseum Unteruhldingen was inaugurated in the year 1922 and even today, several reconstructions are added. One of the striking features of this museum is Bad Buchau, a Bronze Age settlement constructed between 1923 and 1931. From January to March and December, guided tours of the museum take place from Monday to Friday, starting a 2.30p.

An old monastery that was founded in the 12th Century, Kloster Weißenau is a significant structure in Ravensburg. The monastery was dissolved post secularization but the buildings are well preserved. The abbey church of Saint Peter and Paul is a noteworthy building dating back to the 18th Century. The ballroom of the convent is used for local concerts and can seat up to 300 people. The Zentrum für Psychiatrie Weißenau is housed in one of the monastery buildings.
The Gottlieben Castle is one of the oldest surviving historic structures in Gottlieben (Thurgau canton). Since 1808, it has been a privately owned premise. Its structure, today highlights rich Neo-Gothic style of architecture. It is a registered site of national significance.
