Point State Park

The Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers meet here to form the Ohio River. Found within this 36-acre (15-hectare) park are several French and British forts from the late 18th Century. Also on site is the famous fountain that shoots streams of water 150 feet (46 meters) high, and has become a symbol of the city. Its July 4th fireworks extravaganza draws massive crowds.

Randyland

Artist Randy Gilson opens his funky, colorful courtyard to the people of Pittsburgh and the tourists who happen to stumble upon it when visiting the area known as the Mexican War Streets. Open every afternoon, the courtyard presents a kaleidoscopic, psychedelic melange of found objects and the brightly colored home functions as a studio for a small collective of like minded artists. Gilson is also a community benefactor, in which he has almost single-handedly transformed a decrepit neighborhood into something beautiful not only with his property, but with other lots, buildings and gardens around the North Shore.

West End-Elliott Overlook Park

This city park is located in the neighborhood of Elliott, where the green-space boasts some postcard perfect views of Pittsburgh. The park which sits upon a bluff has impressive views of the Monongahela, Ohio and Allegheny Rivers as well as the downtown skyline. In fact, the park is a must-visit attraction on everybody's itinerary, whether you live here or are just a visitor. During the summer, the park transforms into an open-air movie theater with terraced seating that is perfect for large groups and families. It is sometimes a bit difficult to reach since it is located in a residential neighborhood, however there is on-site parking when you do eventually find it.

Hartwood Acres is a 629-acre Allegheny County Park, with one of the largest country estates in the region. Hartwood includes a Tudor Mansion cottage, stable and gate lodge, and inside the mansion is a collection of original English and American antiques.
