Wolski's Tavern

Wolski's has been serving drinks for over 100 years to Milwaukeens and it is a true family-run bar. It is still in the hands of Wolski's great-grandsons and retains the same charm as it did a century ago. With a simple beer menu that contains classics like Schlitz, Blatz and Guinness alongside real felt dartboards, no-frills is the name of the game here. Oftentimes the bar has local suds that rotate according to season, from Lakefront Brewery to the heralded New Glarus Brewery, patrons will surely find something tasty. Also, if you are absolutely the last person to stay until the bar closes, you'll receive an 'I Closed Wolski's' bumper sticker.

Von Trier

According to the restaurant website, the story says that there has been a tavern on this spot for well over a century. The spot has changed many times over those last 100 years until Karl Lotharus purchased the restaurant and renamed it after his hometown of Trier in 1978. Since then it has become the quintessential Lotharingian restaurant and bar on the corner of Farwell and North. It has changed owners a few times since Karl died unfortunately just three years after he purchased it, however today the new owners have retained the German beer and brats to the delight of Milwaukee's denizens. It is a real nice place for a drink and the interior oozes authenticity galore with its massive Bier steins, wood and stained glass panels, and of course an awesome beer garden.

Bartolotta's Lake Park Bistro

Despite the Italian sounding name, Bartolotta's Lake Park Bistro is entirely French. For those outside of Milwaukee, this is one of the many restaurants from the Bartolotta family. Lake Park Bistro is actually the second restaurant and it is located in the eponymous park overlooking the water. The menu consists of classics like Coquille St. Jacques and Foie Gras Parfait served with a Madeira wine jelly, however the former eschews the Gruyère and adds cabbage and pomegranate as a twist. Almost every quintessential French dish you could imagine is on the menu, from moules and steak frites to onion soup and duck confit, Joe Bartolotta may be Italian, but he sure knows French.

Foundation

If you enjoy Mai Tai's and Pink Ladies, then Foundation is the place to have one. The drinks are extremely strong and the mellow island vibe inside the bar will make it seem as if you traveled back to the 1960's and landed in a Hawaiian trinket shop. Nonetheless, the bar is very popular and it does tend to become crowded during the weekend, so if you want a good seat, come early.

Swingin' Door Exchange

This bar/restaurant is a no-frills, simple place that slings better than average drinks and a great place to eat any time of day. Here, sandwiches like the Reuben and Patty Melt are served with interesting and tasty side dishes like Spicy Vermouth Carrots or grilled beets instead of fries. The restaurant also provides locals with the ubiquitous Friday night fish fry (just as any good Milwaukee establishment would) and one of the best things about the place is the cost, diners seem to agree that everything on the menu is extremely well-priced for the portion(s).

Angelo's Piano Lounge

Here at Angelo's it's all about the music. For over 25 years this Milwaukee mainstay has entertained locals with lively piano jazz accompanied by local singers. Every night is a little different, sometimes Angelo himself is on the piano and other times there is a different musician behind the keys. The place is small and intimate, and oftentimes Angelo invites guests to sing along, so be ready!
