Established as the Portland Buddhist Church in 1903, the Oregon Buddhist Temple is the oldest Buddhist sect in the state. Practising Jodo Shinshu, this temple is a part of the Buddhist Churches of America. It was started initially to cater to the city's growing Japanese immigrants but is now open to anyone who wants to practice this belief. They regularly host services on Sundays and other cultural programs throughout the year.
