Sauvie Island

Sauvie Island is one of the biggest river islands of the US, near River Columbia, spread over a 33 square mile (85 square kilometer) land area. The island is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Portland city and is connected to the mainland by Sauvie Island Bridge. This place is favorite option for a short get-away because of its proximity and recreational activities like bird-watching, boating, fishing, kayaking, hunting, etc. The island is enveloped with beaches from all the sides. Sauvie Island Wildlife Area is famous state-owned habitat of about 25o species of exotic birds and fishes. Bybee-Howell House, Warrior Rock Lighthouse and Fort William are some of the historic sites here.
