Por do Sol Amphitheater

In 2000, the City Council of Porto Alegre opened this space located by Guaiba Lake in a green area between two of the largest parks in the capital. They conducted a public consultation to name the space, and the name chosen was Por do Sol, meaning 'sunset' - one of the most famous icons of Porto Alegre. The amphitheater is managed by the city's Environmental Office and has a fully-equipped stage where big names of Latin music play. It has been one of the main meeting points during the World Social Forum since its construction and tends to have a busy summer calendar of events. It isn't as popular during winter, although the area is still used for exhibitions and trade fairs.
