Prague's main rail station is a grand tribute to a lost era. Once a stunning architectural wonder of art nouveau from 1909, it was ruined in the 1970s by a misguided dispatch hall extension. Hlavní nádrazí connects to the city's metro system and has a surprisingly large number of services, despite its seedy appearance. Currency exchange, a post office and a tourist information office are located within the station. Do not be tempted to use the nearby lockers. Although they are cheaper, they are not secure. The sad and meagre café on the top floor is best avoided.
