Prichard

"Emerging From The Shadows Of Slavery"

Prichard is a part of Mobile County and was incorporated as a city in 1925. It was earlier known as Toulminville and was supposed to be a station on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. The land was bought by Cleveland Prichard after whom the town is named who wanted to establish a farming center. After the Clotilde - the last U.S. slave ship and Africatown community who settled near the Mobile Bay during the antebellum era, Prichard became the home of these West Africans illegal immigrants. It has an ethnic background of Hispanics, Asians, African Americans and Native Americans. The Prichard Municipal Stadium and the Whistler Historic District are among the few interesting places worth a visit.
