"Historic Residence"

Take a trip to the Port Mercer Canal House, a structure built in the early 19th Century to house the bridge tender and his family during that period of time. In the bygone era the main role of the bridge tender was to open the canal so boats pass and later close the canal. Later in the 1970s, the house went under restoration under the ownership of the Lawrence Historical Society. The surrounding area of the house has been renovated with beautiful landscapes where parties are held every June by the Society. You can visit the house by appointment by contacting the association.
