Federal Hill

Federal Hill has one of the most varied and historic reputations as a neighborhood could have in any city. Today it's filled with ritzy bars, restaurants, shops, apartments and entertainment, though it was not always this way. Situated in the heart of the city, this neighborhood is known for its rich Italian-American population. The Italian-Americans here have contributed immensely over the centuries to the development and betterment of the city. The many Italian restaurants here offer delectable food to patrons throughout the year. As you walk down Atwells Avenue, you'll definitely know where you are when you see La Pigna (the pine cone) under the gateway arch.

AS220

AS220 is a non-profit venue that foments love for art in all its myriad forms. They have various resources open to the public, some are free, others require a nominal fee. Some of the workshops and classes include computer labs that teach programming languages, darkroom skills for DSLR Newbies and print shop techniques for traditional media purists. Additionally, inside this 22,000-square-foot building, visitors will find several galleries and a stage where local artists display their talents. There is always something new at AS220.

Norman Bird Sanctuary

The Norman Bird Sanctuary is the perfect venue in Newport for bird watching, hiking and family outings. Located just beyond Newport's Third Beach, the park blends ponds and woodlands with ocean breezes and sandy terrain. Trail maps and public restrooms are available at the entrance to the park, along with ample parking spaces. There are over seven miles of trails, allowing visitors to bird watch from designated posts or enjoy views of the sea from the rocks and hills.

Roger Williams Park

This massive 427-acre park is located in South Providence, adjacent to the suburb of Cranston. It sits upon land that was once inhabited by the Narragansett Tribe before it was granted to Roger Williams, one of the Rhode Islands's original colonists in 1638. His heirs donated it in 1871 and the park was subsequently built in 1878. Once on the grounds, the park contains seven different lakes and it's also home to the city zoo, botanical gardens, the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in addition to some other quirky attractions like the Temple to Music and Carousel Village. The aforementioned lakes are also the perfect spot to take a tranquil boat during the summer and especially during the fall when the leaves change their colors.

Blackstone River State Park

Located off the George Washington Highway in Rhode Island, Blackstone River State Park is a popular place to visit during the warm summer months. Overlooking the scenic Blackstone River, this waterfront park offers facilities for hiking, biking, canoeing and fishing. Visitors can go canoeing along the river as well as the canal. This dog-friendly park also features well-equipped picnic areas and ample car parking spaces. Visitors can partake in walking tours that lead to the interesting Captain Wilbur Kelly House Museum.

Lincoln Woods State Park

Lincoln Woods State Park is a natural treasure located on Manchester Print Works Road in the state of Rhode Island. This lush green state park encompasses an area of 627 acres (254 hectares). Here, visitors have an array of recreational activities to indulge in. Some of these include activities like swimming, trout fishing, hiking, jogging, and horse riding. It is also a popular spot for picnics and for ice fishing and skating during the cold winter winters. Interestingly, the park was a favourite summer respite of author H.P. Lovecraft.
