The city acclaimed for its classical music heritage has yet another site where individuals can soak up secular compositions - the Nathanaelgemeinde Kirche. This Lutheran church holds mass on a daily basis, as well as a number of concerts and benefits, many of which are performed by the church's parishioners themselves. Nathanaelgemeinde Kirche is tucked away just off of Lindenauer Markt and boasts a beautifully restored sanctuary with original stained glass pieces. An evangelical kindergarten was also added to the church complex in July 2010 and provides space a modern for up to 77 children. - Sarah Saurette
Opened in 2005, Grieg - Begegnungsstätte is located in the former music salon of C.F Peters publishing house. The rooms are now used by the German-Norwegian Friendship Society, e.V. for various events. Several concerts and lectures are also hosted here. Adjoining rooms of the house showcase an exhibit about the life and work of renowned Norwegian pianist and composer- Edvard Hagerup Grieg who is considered to be a legend in the world of classical music.
Heinrich Schütz Haus is a prominent landmark of Bad Köstritz. The house marks the birthplace of the famous German composer Heinrich Schütz. Schütz Academy took the initiative to transform the house into a research and memorial site. The museum chronicles the life and history of the great composer with respect to local historical environment. Events like Köstritzer Schütz-days, weekend of Baroque music and concerts of Heinrich Schütz MUSIKFEST are a regular feature here. Traveling exhibitions, and educational programs for children and adults are few interesting activities available for visitors.
The Evangelische Lutheran Kirchgemeinde St. Christophori is an active local church that offers regular services and prayers. The church has a spectacular facade and dates back to the 16th Century. Renovations and additions to the church were done in the 17th and 18th Centuries. The church houses a marble font dating back to 1610, carved by Michael Hegewald. The resplendent church organ was built in 1925. The church conducts several local events and activities.
Located in the Altstadt district, the Franziskaner Klosterkirche is an old abbey dating back to the 13th Century. The monastery was dissolved in 1541 after reformation took place here. The monastery functioned as a school but the school was closed down too. The city council then took over the administration of the monastery and today, it is known for hosting local events and clubs.
