Wildt'sches Haus is placed right in the center of Basel city in close proximity to the university of Basel. This baroque style mansion was built in the year 1764 by Johann Jacob Fechter for Wild's daughter Margaretha. The mansion is well maintained and still retains some of the original furniture and artwork. Beautiful paintings adorn the walls and elegant chandeliers hang from the ceilings, giving the mansion a very regal air. Today the Wildt house is the seat of the Swiss academy of medical sciences and also hosts local events and functions.
Belongs to the oldest 'figure portal' in the German-speaking area (12th century).
The Stadtkino or city cinema is a truly eclectic place, which is devoted to screening films that are good, exciting and interesting. The cinema itself is pitchblack so light doesn't stand a chance when it tries to sneak in. As most of the guests are movie buffs who relish the black and white and technicolor films shown, this isn't the kind of movie theater where you'll find people talking and being noisy. All screenings start punctually and there are no trailers. The films shown are usually not newly released; instead, the focus is on particular topic areas. The Kunsthalle also holds something here every two weeks.
