Cedar Creek Battlefield, also known as the Battle of Belle Grove, is a place that brings to life the history of Shenandoah Valley. The Cedar Creek Battlefield marks the location of that infamous 1864 campaign which was a crushing defeat of the Confederates and their last attempt to invade the Union during the Civil War. The Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation made considerable efforts to erect a memorial on the location to commemorate the history of the battle and bought all the surrounding land including the visitor center. Every year the foundation sponsors a re-enactment of the battle which is a huge draw for Civil War enthusiasts.
