The exterior of the Cumberland Park can deceive you to believe that it is just another local park; but its several unique features makes the Cumberland Park nothing less than a popular tourist attraction. When the weather is hot, this is a place where locals come to cool off at the on-site sprayground. Children can be seen frolicking in the water while adults take time to unwind and relax. In addition to the sprayground, the Cumberland Park also has a wonderful green maze where amid all the fun rides children become oblivious to time. A climbing wall and an explorer trail also form a part of the Cumberland Park.
For nearly a century this troupe of actors, singers and musicians has been entertaining children and their parents with popular productions and original plays. The historic Nashville Children's Theatre hosts eight productions each season, and students from local schools fill most of the seats. Weekend matinee performances give parents and other family members a chance to enjoy the shows with their children. This 200-acre walk-through zoological park is home to the rare and beautiful. You'll encounter cougars, black bears, Bengal tigers, zebras, cheetahs and playful river otters. Kids can even go a bit wild on the Jungle Gym playground. The Croft Center, named for the sisters who left the estate to Grassmere, houses the Unseen New World exhibit and a variety of reptiles. There is also a working farm exhibit and a petting zoo.
When the mercury rises and the temperature makes you sizzle under the collar, head for Wave Country. It features a number of water slides and a wave machine that creates surf up to four-feet high. There is no better way to cool off on a hot day. The park also has picnic areas and additional recreation space for kids to toss a baseball or Frisbee when the water fun is finished. Shuckle's Corn Maze offers guests a safe and entertaining outdoor activity filled with all the fun of a farm on a beautiful fall day. Open from the 28th of September to the 4th of November on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, it is a great place for families to explore together. Group reservations are accepted from Tuesdays to Fridays. In addition to the seven acre (2.83 hectares) corn maze, Shuckle's also has pony rides, hay rides, face painting, farm games and play areas for the little ones. After dark, Shuckle's is great for older kids, groups and couples as the corn maze goes completely dark and guests must bring flashlights in order to navigate the maze.
