Café Intime is a treat. Here, in the middle of kitschy souvenirs and a cozy ambiance, they serve reasonably priced drinks. The owner and hostess will most likely sing cabaret tunes that make you think of Weimar Berlin rather than Copenhagen. The majority of the clientele is gay, but everyone is welcome.
Sunrise, Metropolitan, Between the Sheets, New Classics, Old Classics: this up-to-date bar has all the cocktail mixes, and they serve them with a smile. The word Vinklder actually means Wine Cellar, but that was a long time ago when in the 16th Century this location used to be a monastery. Now the monks have turned into cocktail waitresses and virtue has been replaced with vice - or maybe just nice. The bar serves delicious burgers and, if you are lucky, a plate of oysters from the restaurant upstairs. Try the Strawberry Daiquiri, a favorite with the regulars. The bar also has a wide selection of foreign beers such as Leffe, Budvar, and Hoegarden.
This might look like a traditional English pub from the outside, but it isn't; it is Scottish. Kilts, fishing equipment, bagpipes leave you with no doubt. You can choose from 70 different whiskeys, ranging from ordinary Johnny Walker to 25 year-old Bowmore, a single-malt. The clientele consists mostly of 30-somethings drinking McEwans (of course). Live music is played every day.
Whether you want to have a hearty breakfast consisting of fresh-made bread from the in-house bakery, lunch on fresh salads, homemade burgers and delicious steaks or simply sit at the bar and grab an afternoon craft cocktail or a cup of gourmet coffee, Streckers Cafe is the place to go. With a sleek wood bar, leather stools, a massive gilded mirror, open brick walls and fancy hanging lamps, the pub gives the feel of a new-age tavern. Live music nights are held every evening wherein international artists come in and perform for an enthusiastic audience. With so much happening, it is a very popular spot for both locals and tourists, so remember to book a table.
A photo of Winston Churchill is on the wall at one end, and photos of cricket, football and rowing at the other. Directly opposite the Tivoli Gardens lies this mini-England that makes you think of a nineteenth-century British pub, with its high ceilings and brass décor. The actual bar counter does date from the nineteenth century, being 180 years old to be exact, and the bartender behind it is almost guaranteed to be English (although not as old).British Empire favorites like Double Diamond, John Bull, New Castle Brown and Caines are sold and The Old English Pub is also the only place in town with Stella draught beer. Many come here to watch football as they promise to show their eager customers everything off Sky TV. If there is not a Premier League match on, then there is live music in the evening.
Put on your best dress (no sneakers allowed), flash your best smile, and enter the lively world of Rosie McGee. One step away from fairy-tale Tivoli lies your evening of dining, drinking and dancing in one of Copenhagen's largest bars. The interior is known to be one of the most expensively done-up in Scandinavia, and it boasts of over 100 beer taps. Most people here are in their mid-twenties. The restaurant is open from noon till 23:00 from Monday to Saturday and till 22:00 on Sunday. On some weekdays, there is live music.
BrewPub enjoys a Central location, just a few minutes away from the City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen). The local microbrewery is housed within a charming old, 17th-century building on Vestergade. BrewPub offers several kinds of American-style beers midst vibrant and thorough uber-modern decor. Existing beside the brewery itself is a great little restaurant and beer garden where you can enjoy relaxed meal over a few beers. The food is the usual American pub fare - salads, sandwiches, burgers and such, which are quite tasty. Before you commit to a single kind of beer, you should try the brew taster to get the gist of what BrewPub is all about. For more information on brewery tours, check their website.
This lively little bodega is tucked away on Vestergade. Although named Cafe Guldhornene, the place is most definitely a night haunt - a cozy, homey bar and public house. The decor is as vibrant as the pulse of the joint, reds and warm shades dominate the interiors, while old photographs adorn the walls. The bar program offered is an impressive one, lots of local beers available. Music played here, in the background, reflects the past two decades in Danish music. All in all, Cafe Guldhornene is a great spot to catch up with old friends over a pint or two.
