Ford Field

The National Football League's Detroit Lions played outside the city at the Pontiac Silverdome since abandoning Detroit's Tiger Stadium at the end of the 1974 season. In 2002, The Lions moved back to the city and into their new digs at Ford Field, a massive 65,000-seat stadium of steel and glass in the city's downtown entertainment district. Besides sporting events, the facility holds concerts, banquets, corporate events and other special events as well.

MGM Grand Detroit Casino

Looking to bring the allure of Las Vegas to the Motor City, the MGM Grand brings their quality gaming tables and machines to downtown Detroit. This casino doesn't hedge its bets, featuring over 4500 slot and video poker machines, 90 gaming tables, and a premier poker room to satisfy those with the Hold 'Em fever. Situated on the ground floor of the MGM Grand Detroit hotel, the casino is surrounded by great restaurants and shops to spend your winnings in. What happens in Vegas now happens in Detroit.

Small's

Small's is a very popular bar lodged in the beautiful city of Hamtramck. It is considered as one of the best rock venues by a number of magazines and critics alike. Housed in what was formerly a bank, Small's front room is home to an Art Deco era mahogany bar stocked with an impressive selection of 53 variants of beer and top shelf liquor. You also get one of the best 'Jukeboxes' here which belts out some great tunes. Then there is the back room which has one of the best live rooms in town, where bands have gigs and keep audiences entertained. Besides this, the bar also boasts of a pool table and arcade games arena which adds to the overall fun quotient. You can also expect great acts at this place which is considered to have the best sound system around town. "Small" only in name, this bar promises the best in drinks and entertainment.

Greektown

For those seeking hustle and unlimited fun, Greektown is the place to be. What once was one block of nearly identical Greek restaurants has expanded into an exciting district filled with restaurants, clubs, shops and even the Greektown Casino. The increasingly upscale but still affordable Greek eateries and bakeries, with their succulent baklava and other pastries, still provide the anchor for a diverse area.

Elaine L. Jacob Gallery

Located on the Wayne State University, this is one of the best galleries in Detroit. Stroll through both levels of this gallery and you'll find contemporary art in every corner. The work often takes unique views and are supposed to be thought-provoking and challenging the boundary of the current art scenario. The gallery always has both local artwork and international talent on display.

Campus Martius Park

Centrally located on the bustling Woodward Avenue, Campus Martius Park is part of Detroit's efforts to reconstruct the downtown cityscape. Filled with botanical gardens and expansive lawns, this park is a welcome change from the high-rise buildings in the area, and draws hundreds of visitors in search of some sun and relaxation. The surrounding area has also grown to reflect the new spirit of downtown, with restaurants and cafes catering to families and business people alike. The park also houses monuments and artwork celebrating the history of the city, and features multiple stages for music concerts and performances. If you find yourself in Detroit during the winter months, be sure to bring your skates and head to Campus Martius' outdoor rink.
