The current building of the Lettes Theater was originally the Companhia de Jesus de Faro's College in the early 17th Century, built from the initiative of the bishop D. Fernando Martins de Mascarenhas. At the time, the building came to be a monument with a church in the central building and a college in the surrounding spaces. With the coming of Liberalism and the extinction of religious orders, the college was sold in the public sector to Dr.Lázaro Doglioni, an Italian doctor who had other plans for the space. The college was turned into a theater and the church into a show room; in place of the choir and chapels, a stage and seating was installed. The renovations maintained the building's front and the college grounds.
