Spread across 30 acres (12 hectares), the Kalmia Gardens is situated in Hartsville, South Carolina. The gardens were set up by Mrs. David R. Coker who made trails and planted ornamental flora. The early-19th-century plantation features azalea plants and camellias along with an array of native species that enhance the beauty of the garden. It is a renowned birding spot that guarantees a pleasing experience for bird watchers. Also, the Joslin Education Center is accessible to school groups for trips to the gardens.
Lawton Park is a 3.5 acre (1.4 hectares) local public park. Built along the Prestwood Lake shore, the picturesque park is the perfect place for an evening stroll, picnic with friends and family or recreational sports. The park features a lovely boardwalk with a pier as well as playgrounds for kids and tennis courts. The Lawton Park Pavilion is a historic structure built in the Colonial Revival style, completed in 1938. A popular venue for special events and weddings.
Originally the Cargill Oil Mill, this city center park has been beautifully developed to create a bright, green space for all to enjoy. Local events and activities take place at the park and it is also where the Hartville Veteran’s Memorial and Veteran’s Walk is located. This memorial honors all the veterans and soldiers who have made sacrifices for their country.
