Shop Street is the central location for shopping in Galway, with plenty of locals and tourists checking out the variety of stores and strolling the sidewalks. This shop specializes in hand-crafted ethnic and woven items and accepts all donations of second-hand clothes and books. Many of the items are imported and are therefore a little expensive for a second-hand shop, but they often make excellent gifts. Books and knickknacks are also sold here, as well as unusual candle holders, incense burners, rugs, pillows and hand-woven baskets.
Eason's is one of Galway's largest bookstores. On the ground floor there is a vast selection of literary publications, including magazines, travel guides, cookbooks, literary fiction and bestsellers. Upstairs is the largest stationery department in Galway, with a small section displaying videos, music and CD ROMs to the left of the escalator. The staff are generally helpful and you can make inquiries or order books at the information desk.
This jeweler has one of the finest reputations in handcrafted jewelery in the West of Ireland. The shop is run by Robert Blacoe and his team of craftspeople. There is a wide selection of Claddagh rings to choose from in gold, platinum and silver. Both the traditional Claddagh ring and Blacoe's own styles are on display. The wide selection includes the Children of Lir selection, the Millennium ring, the Spiral ring and the famous Celtic cross. Orders for these can be taken from all areas of the globe.
Aisling Bookshop is located on the corner of Lower Abbeygate Street and Middle Street, in one of the most historic areas in Galway. The store is located in what was an old cathedral before it was sold to a commercial company in the 1950s. The shop stocks a wide range of Bibles and other Christian books, as well as second hand books and a large selection of Christian videos.
