Opened in 1910, this church was once the smallest church in the Transvaal province as it only measured 20 feet by 2 feet. In the early 1900s a group of Methodists started worshiping at the home of the Ritchie family which led to the official opening of this church. By 1938, enough money had been raised to build a bigger church on a three quarter acre plot. Parktown North Methodist Church is centrally located one block away from the main Jan Smuts Avenue interchange.

A suburb, located near Orange Grove, Observatory is situated towards east of JoBurg. The neighborhood is straddled between Houghton Estate and Kensington. Named for the Union Observatory, which is now called the Johannesburg Observatory, this suburb is home to Observatory Ridge which towers over 1,808 metres (5,932 feet), making it the highest point in the city. Apart from this, Observatory is close to attractions such as Eastgate Shopping Center, Bruma flea market and Observatory Golf Course and is often considered to be a good area for residences.
Formerly known as Afga Theater on the Square, the Old Mutual Theatre on the Square hosts all kinds of entertainment, including musicals, plays, children's theater, concerts, and corporate events, to name a few.
