Located as it is at the far end of Walkin Street from the town centre, it is unlikely that many visitors will find their way to the Lighthouse. Those that do will find a clean, efficient bar with a darts board and a pool table, and a popular spot for wedding and funeral parties in the area. There's a slightly functional air to the whole place. The name comes from a time when horse-drawn carriages from Cork used to come to Kilkenny, and when the drivers saw a light here, they knew their journey was nearly over. Plenty of parking is available, but it's more of a local bar than a tourist attraction.
This modern wood and chrome bar is one of the nicer venues in the Kilkenny. It has the ambitious Mousetrap Theatre upstairs, and boasts that every weekend is a festival. As well as comedy, the theatre hosts live readings and music, and a Friday night comedy club. There are also frequent exhibitions by local and international artists. There is a good selection of posters on the wall, many with a comedy theme. Good coffee is served, and there is a range of cocktails on sale. In the summer, check out the small beer garden. Trendy, modernist and well worth a visit.
The 67 Bar is one of the most popular nightlife destinations in Kilkenny. Located in the Langton House, this bar has plush leather seating and a wide selection of drinks and food. However, the best part about the bar is that it occasionally has live entertainment.
