Built in 1770 by Lutheran Palatine Germans, it is one of the oldest of its kind in the Mohawk Valley. The Palatine Church is made up of limestone and is a one story, rectangular shaped building. It features a tower with a gilded bronze top. It was renovated in 2008. The church has been a national historic site since 1973.
As the name suggests, the Herkimer Home State Site was the home of Nicholas Herkimer, a general who lost his life in the Battle of Oriskany. Now transformed into a house museum, the site also features lovely surroundings that are ideal for picnicking and hiking. The facility is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day each year.
Secret Caverns, as the name suggests, is a cave system which is not much of a secret. This prehistoric cave will take you on a journey across time, the various stalagmites and stalactites capturing the visitor's imagination. The guided tour is highly recommended, and there are lodging facilities and other fun games to keep people entertained after the cave tour is over.
