Strategically located on the ground floor of the Sarit Centre, the Café Royale offers Continental cuisine foods and à la carte dishes to hungry shoppers. Clean and spacious, the Café Royale has a bustling atmosphere thanks to the regular flow of shoppers who come here to have a break. Smoking is allowed throughout the café so it's not a place to go if you don't like the smell of tobacco smoke. A full selection of snacks including tasty chicken sandwiches (KSh 200). The buffet for KSh 500 is satisfying and very good value for money. Licenced.
Located on Chiromo Road in the Westlands area of the city, Anchor offers fantastic food, superb service and an amazing atmosphere. Decorated in light green and yellow, the spacious interior has a real air of elegance. A delightful place to wallow in comfort. The menu offers excellent variety with something to tantalise all palates. Pizzas, chillis, sandwiches, and snacks (all KSh 150) are tasty snacks. Those who feel slightly hungrier can take their pick from fillet steak, pan fried tilapia or western fried chicken (all KSh 200). Highly recommended.
Located in the Wab Hotel, this is restaurant-cum-bar has a very classy air. Go on a Friday or Saturday night when the Melodies Band belt out some catchy tunes. Recently refurbished, the Buru-Buru has emerged looking much improved in all respects. The interior is strikingly attractive with subdued lighting. A sandwich or a four course meal - the choice is yours. Main courses are quite good value at KSh 450 but alcohol is rather over-priced with a tot of whisky costing KSh 100.
Located inside the Intercontinental Hotel, this small and elegant eatery offers some of the best Indian cuisine around. This small restaurant has a warm and welcoming feel, making it ideal for a quiet meal. The simple but attractive decor lends the Bhandini a real air of elegance.
The culinary highlight has got to be the Bhadini kebab platter - a healthy selection of chicken, lamb chops, and lamb kebabs marinated in sour milk and spices (KSh 664). Another favourite is the delicious prawn curry which is cooked to perfection in onion, tomato and fresh coriander leaves, and finished off with mustard seeds (KSh 898). The bar offers a wide range of wines, spirits, lagers and non-alcoholic beverages.
Located on Moi Avenue, Arturo is one of the liveliest bars in town. Especially well-known for its live performances of Lingala music. Kikuyu and Luo music is every Wednesday and Friday. The decor is simple but the atmosphere is buzzing. Entrance is free and the beer is affordable with prices ranging from KSh 70; beef stew - one of the few dishes available - is equally cheap at KSh 140. A great place to go to dance the night away!
Located next to the Phoenix Theatre, this smart eatery was first established by the professional photographer, Azar Chaudry, and is now run by the rally driver, Mike Doughty. The perfect place for a meal before a night at the theatre. The cream walls lined with beautiful wildlife paintings gives this place a cosy and homely atmosphere. Not surprisingly, it's very popular with theatre-goers.
There is an emphasis on English cuisine here with one of the most popular dishes being the juicy and tender fillet prime cut steak (KSh 510). All dishes come with mashed or boiled potatoes or chips. For those with less hearty appetites, there are plenty of snacks including sandwiches and pies (KSh 90). For dessert, try the Cassata, a rich Italian ice cream with nuts for only KSh 170. Wash it all down with a Bozzy Coffee made from carefully selected coffee beans or - if you want to splash out - the Riviera with Cointreau (KSh 510).
