Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center is spread across sprawling eight acres (3.23 hectares) and its main building dates back to 1956. This shopping plaza houses boutiques like Heathcote Bootery and Shoe-Inn, grocery stores, Supersol and Gristedes. You can also dine at the local pizza place, Italian Village. Bagel Power and The Gourmet Chef are your other dining options here. Sophia's Nails, Golden Day Spa and BST Salon are also present at the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center.
The Upper West Side is home to a number of gourmet marketplaces, but perhaps none as impressive as this one. It is hard to walk by Zabar's without stopping in to purchase some of their top quality, reasonably priced delicacies. Nobody does it better when it comes to olives, cheese, smoked salmon, whitefish and other New York essentials. It can get unbearably crowded however, and during some Jewish holidays you might even have to wait on line to get into the store.
All the chocolate is Varsano's own gourmet blend and can be found in shapes from a chocolate bandage to a chocolate microphone. Each season brings a new ensemble of whimsical gift ideas. Unafraid to dip just about anything in chocolate and often found dipping his cherries, strawberries, Oreos or his famous pretzel rods right in the store; Marc Varsano is almost always on hand to talk about anything chocolaty sweet. Stop by and get yourself something nice and sweet.
Established in 1937 when Yorkville was still a thriving German community, this place has maintained the loyalty to its former patrons. Never mind that many must now order their bratwursts, bockwursts, blutwursts, Bavarian loaves and Black Forest hams by mail. Part of the reason for this loyalty is the consistent high quality of its sausages, hams and other products, some of which have won gold medals in Germany, Austria and Holland through the years.
