The Kansas City Athenaeum was founded in 1894, when several residents of the growing town came together to form a literary group, and also pursued philanthropic activities that would benefit the community and address other local problems of the city. Over the years, the Athenaeum has been dedicated to promoting Kansas City culture through education, historic preservation, friendship and philanthropy. In present times, the center is organizing different activities in educational and philanthropy. They also organize social events, field trips and lunch programs, which include historical tours, museum trips and cooking classes.
The Thornhill Art Gallery is an integral part of Avila University, and showcases art exhibits by students, regional, national and internationally known artists. The gallery is spread over 850 square feet (23 square meters) of exhibit space and houses many traveling exhibits such as ceramics to photography to paintings, from young and established creative minds.

Harry S Truman Office and Courtroom was the commercial space of Harris Truman, the 33rd president of the United States. The courtroom has artifacts from the period since it was built and has colonial architecture. A 30-minute tour here would introduce patrons to the courtroom sessions during the 19th Century. Also, a video is shown stating facts about the life of the former president. A must visit historic landmark for its political significance.
Independence Temple was built around 1984, as a symbol of peace. The religious site has a calm aura to it and overlooks an alluring garden. The temple is of high religious significance to the Community of Christ, as it was built with the purpose of spreading peace.
