Markthal

Markthal is the first covered market and a prominent landmark of the Netherlands. The market building is created on the designs by reputed architecture firm MVRDV. It features an extensive fresh food market, restaurants, and supermarket on the ground floor covered with an arched ceiling. The colorful interior and impressive glass arches are awe-inspiring. Guided tours of this notable sight are available for the visitors.

De Koopgoot

The buying drain, yes that's basically what De Koopgoot is if you translate it literally, but don't be fooled, this is one of the most exclusive shopping areas in Rotterdam. You could be excused for not realizing that you are in Rotterdam, as the Koopgoot looks rather Mediterranean in style. Constructed just four years ago, it has captured the essence of Rotterdam's existence, that international feel that only the world's second largest harbor city can have. The Koopgoot has shops like the Body Shop, C & A, Yves Rocher, and many specialty shops. There are also cafe terraces overlooking the shopping center which provide a wonderful view of the Koopgoot, where you can rest your shopping weary legs over a cup of good Dutch coffee.

Schiebroek Markt

The market in Schiebroek is typically Dutch. This is where the locals do a good deal of their weekly shopping. Of course supermarkets are booming concerns here in Holland, however the value of the traditional market is never forgotten. Here you can find your weekly bunch of flowers, which you'll find in every Dutch home, the very best farmer's cheese (boerenkaas), fresh fish from the North Sea, bread, clothes, and household goods such as soaps, toiletries, etc. It wouldn't be a trip to the market without a bag of hot chips topped off with the Dutch favorite of mayonnaise to nibble on as you browse the stalls. You'll find an excellent chip (patat) stand in the corner of the market square and it could be said that Dutch chips are really amongst, if not THE world's best. Around the market square are a number of excellent cafes where you can sit and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee, and during the warmer months there is a sidewalk cafe overlooking the market.

Scheveningen

Scheveningen has been synonomous with beach outings and vacations in the Netherlands for nearly a century and the half, and its fame extends beyond the borders of the country. Though technically a section of the city of The Hague, Scheveningen is regarded as a separate city by many, and it is indeed separated from the city by a landscape of dunes and forest. It also sports all of the attendant resources of a separate town including shops, amenities and lodging. The area also has more than a few unique attractions (most of which center on the Strandweg, or beach promenade), such as the Scheveningse Pier with its restaurants, casino and observaton tower, the many resorts with similar facilities, and the amusements like entertainment venues, museums and the Sea Life aquarium.

Haagse Passage

Built in 1885, the Passage is the oldest shopping center in the Netherlands and a memento of a time when shopping and social interaction was a more refined and genteel affair. The array of stores in the pasage changes, but includes both Dutch national chains and small boutiques. The goods on offer do tend towards more luxurious goods but also include a number of stores that offer more everyday goods.

Statenkwartier

The Statenkwartier, also known as the Geuzenkwartier or Beggars' Quarter, is named for the early figures of the history of the States General of the Netherlands and is one of the city's most picturesque areas. Known for its unusual diagonally-intersecting street grid, wide squares and Beaux-Artes architecture, it also features some charming shopping streets like the Willem de Zwijgerlaan. The Statenkwartier is technically a subdistrict of Scheveningen but is actually closer to the inner city.
