Popular wisdom holds that this is the restaurant that kicked off the latest round in the fine dining craze in the North Bay. That may or may not be true. What is a fact is that chef Cindy Pawlcyn, who has since been influential in the creation of many other Bay Area restaurants, started here and is still involved in kitchen operations at her flagship restaurant. The atmosphere at Mustards is upscale roadhouse with an airy dining room and walls that are almost entirely made of windows. The staff is lively and and efficient.

This popular gem opened in 1996. Its celebrated owner and chef, Greg Cole, a graduate of New York's Culinary Institute of America, also has extensive training in wine-making. Chic yet unpretentious, the cozy interior contains brick walls, huge arched windows, high ceilings and colorful paintings. On a sunny day, join locals and tourists at one of the outdoor tables fronting Napa Creek. Lunch includes delectable dishes like the Grilled Tombo Tuna Salad with Macadamia Nuts and the notable Oyster Po' Boy. Specialty dinner items include the Jerked Pork Chop with Black Beans and the daily fish special. The restaurant also offers an extensive wine list.

Mamma Taninos entices the discerning diner with its splendid food options. Not many people know about this venue, however, those who do swear by its impeccable food and wine. The menu is a carefully list of dishes that are cooked using traditional recipes by Chef Gaetano Patrinostro, like the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, Gnocchetti Piemontese, Misticanza Salad and Pollo Marsala. The cozy venue is a good place to sip on a few wines and enjoy a hearty meal with fiends and close ones. The service is warm and cheerful.

At the sleek-looking Ad Hoc, chef Thomas Keller takes the average American meal and turns it up a notch. Although the decor may be sparse, with plain white walls and chrome tables, the food is anything but. For starters, ease into the Haricots Verts and Garden Fig Salad, and then move your way up to the Bacalao & Chick Pea Soup. Finish off the night with a heavenly Chocolate Bread Pudding topped with whipped caramel cream. Though pricey, the meals leave you wishing you could eat Keller-style every day.

Bottega is located in the food mecca of Yountville, in the heart of the Napa Valley. Celebrity Chef Michael Chiarello puts together a seasonally changing menu featuring authentic Italian dishes (following the traditional Italian menu progression) made with local, organic and artisinal ingredients. Almost anything they can make themselves in house, they do. And then there's dessert, which is a whole different story featuring the popular sweet fritto misto with chocolate arancini and crispy fried cream. The ambiance is cozy and elegant, featuring warm colors, a fireplace and a covered outdoor lounge perfect for enjoying warm Napa nights. Bottega is truly one of the Napa Valley's culinary crowned jewels.

Fans of Thomas Keller's French Laundry (conveniently located just down the street) will enjoy the more casual Bouchon Bistro on Washington Street in Yountville. This affordable fine-dining establishment serves delicious French bistro treats with a warm Epi baguette. If you can't get a table, try sitting at the bar and getting a drink or enjoying oysters flown in from around the world. The simple menu (served for both lunch and dinner) contains classic bistro dishes, such as Steak Frites, Lamb, Mussels, Croque Madames and Roasted Chicken. Be sure to save some room for dessert! Try the Mousse au chocolat noir or the Profiteroles for a taste of delicious French sweets. Bouchon is often very busy, so be sure to book ahead, especially for parties larger than four.
