Offering a perfect backdrop for a fairy-tale romance, the stunning Château de Chacenay is one of the prime attractions of Chacenay commune. Possibly built in the 13th Century, it has served as the seat for several noble families of the region. Chacenay, with its 11th-century origins, occupies a serene spot in the dense groves and was built with towers, drawbridge and mighty ramparts which helped in protecting the city walls. Louis XI had it demolished in 1472, but it was rebuilt in stages. The castle entertains visitors during summers and has been declared a monument historique.
Théâtre de Champagne was reconstructed in the early 20th Century when the original building was destroyed in a fire. It serves the community of Troyes today as one of the leading cultural centers, hosting dramatic, dance, and musical performances. It can hold 1100 spectators. Troyes is known for its restored half timbered houses and narrow streets, as well as its many churches. View some of the most beautiful stained glass windows in two particular churches: Sainte Madeleine and Saint Martin Es Vignes. Finally, peruse through champagne cellars outside of the town.
