Coffin Rock, also known as Coffin Hill, is the site of a massive flat rock tucked away near a creek in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville. Quite appropriately named, Coffin Rock's history traces back to when an 8-year-old boy went missing in the woods in 1886. While the boy returned safely, the search party did not. Weeks later, the bodies were found at Coffin Rock in a pretty misshapen state. In another instance, a group of hikers went missing at the strange rock in 1994, never to be seen again. These happenings have been attributed to the Blair Witch, and while its exact location remains somewhat elusive, Coffin Rock nevertheless attracts many adventurous wanderers to its sinister abode.
