Cruz de la Española

This scupture that depicts a small cross was sculpted out of dark colored stone from Arucas by the local artist Loren Mateo Castañeyra. It was erected on the Avenida de Juan de Bethancourt above the Puerto del Rosario High School in 1995 in order to commemorate the bicentenary of the island's capital city. Many years ago there used to be a large cross situated close to this very spot that served as a point of reference and a place to rest for local people on their way to la Rosa de Don Victoriano y de Don Felipe and it was popularly known as Cruz de la Española.
