"Abode of the Peshwas"

The magnificent fort of Shaniwar Wada built by the great Peshwa ruler Bajirao I, stands in all its past glory in Pune. Hearkening back to an eventful history, this fort that was once the splendor and pride of the Peshwa Marathas, was left partially destroyed after a fire in 1828. Despite trying times, parts of the fort have endured through the years, and invite much interest from history buffs who come here to explore its beautiful 18th-century architectural elements and soak in the timeless heritage of the Maratha Empire.
