"Stone Rubble Marvel"

In the sprawling grounds of the ancient castle stands St Michael's Church. A small, lovely church dating back to the 12th Century, this structure was constructed on a site used by Furness Abbey's monks for grazing sheep. It is much likely that this Grade I listed church' site was used as a worship place even before the dawn of Christianity. In the 16th Century, St Michael's Church underwent significant restoration which makes it difficult to spot elements of the ancient medieval edifice. Its west and east windows features beautiful Victorian glass. The east glass depicts 'Doom', popularly known as the 'Day of Judgement' scene.
