São Paulo Municipal Theater

An architectural masterpiece, the Theatro Municipal majestically stands at the heart of Sao Paulo strutting its captivating Rennaissance-style facade and art nouveau towers. A landmark structure since its completion in 1911, it was designed by renowned architect Ramos de Azevedo. A building filled with classical art forms, the Teatro Municipal is the venue for the São Paulo Municipal Symphonic Orchestra, the Coral Lírico and the City Ballet. As the city grew, plans for a city theater began to take shape, and this resulted in the building of the Teatro Municipal. The theater hosted the Week of Modern Art in 1922. The theater has recently undergone major renovations to restore its glory and keep it technologically up to date.

Catedral Metropolitana de São Paulo

The magnificence of Catedral Metropolitana de São Paulo, or Catedral da Sé, overpowers the commercial establishments that share space with it on Cathedral Square. Founded in the 16th Century, its construction began in 1912, and over the years, numerous restoration programs have been implemented to retain its original character. Flanked by gigantic towers on either side, the majestic dome is inspired by the Cathedral of Florence's Renaissance minaret. The interiors boast intricate marble sculptures, stained glass panels and breathtaking architecture that's true to the Neo-Gothic school of design. The crypt houses tombs of archdiocese luminaries and the organ is one of the largest on the continent.

São Paulo Zoo

São Paulo's attractive zoo is one of the biggest in the world. Over 3000 reptiles, birds and mammals live in the park in their natural habitats. The zoo covers an area of 200 acres (80.94 hectares) of natural Atlantic forest and is home to numerous wild animals from Brazil and Africa. Exotic, migratory birds flock to the lake, fed by the Ipiranga river, and visitors can also see a colony of saúvas (red leaf-cutting ants) through a magnifying glass.

Aquário de São Paulo

Since its inception in 2006, the São Paulo Aquarium has been a popular feature on every tourist's itinerary. Over 3000 animals from 300 species call this vivarium their home. The place is divided on the basis of the four animal categories on floor. First up, forest regulars lizards, iguanas, snakes and alligators. The Ocean Sector is the habitat of exotic marine life while the Dinosaur Valley houses replicas of the extinct creatures. Lastly, the Mammal Sector features otters, monkeys, toucans and so on. Parque Ecológico do Tietê

A favorite among São Paulo's nature lovers, Parque Ecológico do Tietê is one of the most important ecological reserves in the country. Established in 1982, the park is home to numerous plant species, and monkeys, coatis and capybara also reside here. For those looking to indulge in recreational activities, there are numerous trails, a BMX track, pools, picnic areas, football fields and more. All in all, Parque Ecológico do Tietê makes for an enjoyable as well as educational day out.

Horto Florestal

Horto Florestal, also known as Parque Estadual Alberto Löfgren is one of Sao Paulo's biggest nurseries. They have the special Arboretum Trail which has lush Japanese pine, Brazilian pine and rosewood, and if you are lucky you can even spot a few wild animals. Their recreational area conducts exciting boat rides touring the entire nursery. You could also engage in a fun train tour of the nursery along with your young ones.
