Ancient Kjolur Trail

Running North to South, stretches of arid desert bridge the gap between the highlands of Iceland. The empty highlands unfold brazenly like a Martian landscape, steeped in oft-retold legends and lores. While some legends dictate that the Ancient Kjolur Trail was once frequented by sheep thieves and ancient militia as a shortcut of sorts, folklore also narrates the story of one outlaw couple, who perished in a snowstorm with its flock of sheep. This, and many other legends lend this bleak trail its haunted reputation. Despite its eerie past, the trail is not without its own beauty; several trekkers who set out on this adventurous trail encounter billowing geothermal pools and geological formations on their way.
