"Stunning cliffs"
The landscapes surrounding Masca are simply stunning, a combination of high mountains on one side and the sea on the other. The area has been officially declared a site of special ethnographic and architectural interest. The neighboring islands of La Palma and La Gomera can be seen from here. There's a tiny settlement of typical island houses and a few restaurants at Masca. The journey here on the narrow, winding roads is hair-raising and not recommended for those with vertigo or heart problems, but it's well worth it. From Masca there's a pretty trail down a gorge to a black, volcanic sand beach. It takes around six hours walking. An alternative is to take the boat trip to the beach that leaves from Los Gigantes at 11am and returns from the beach at 3.30pm. A one-way ticket costs 1500 ptas and a return ticket with packed lunch included is 4000 ptas. Book at least a day in advance on +34 922 861 918.
