Guri Reservoir

by Veronidae

"World's Largest Man Made Lake"

Nestled in the eastern side of the country, Guri Reservoir is one of the most important natural resources. Formed as a result of the ambitious Simon Bolivar Hydroelectric Plant, the reservoir is the largest freshwater lake in the country. Sprawled across an area of 4,250 square kilometers (1,641 sq miles), the reservoir can hold over 138 billion cubic meters of waters. Boasting of a diverse topography of grasslands as well as craggy, rock filled shores, the reservoir is the world’s largest man made lake. A true treasure of the country, Guri Reservoir is an ecological gem.
