"In support of children in need"
Thorvaldsens Bazar is located in an old timber house in the heart of Reykjavík. It was initially opened in June 1901 by the Thorvaldsens society (est. 1875) which still runs it. The society's main purpose is to assist children in need, financing facilities in children's hospital wards etc. The bazaar offers traditional Icelandic souvenirs, cuddly toys, carved wooden objects and handknitted woollen clothing in classic Icelandic patterns, sweaters, gloves, etc. The fact that the staff is completely composed of volunteers is reflected in an exceptionally friendly and welcoming athmosphere.
