For more than 200 years, this market has been Richmond's favorite spot to shop for fresh fruit and vegetables. Local farmers peddle red, ripe Hanover tomatoes, sweet Silver Queen corn, huge, crisp cucumbers and other items essential to southern dishes like okra, butterbeans and snap beans (so-called because of the brisk "snap" sound they make when broken in half for boiling). You can also find creamy, thick homemade cheese, fresh flowers for that special someone and antiques and collectables in this fun, bustling environment.
This two-story warehouse is crammed full of the better parts of razed buildings, many a hundred years old. The best items here are in the large collection of dazzling and intricate stained glass windows. Some of the windows are full-sized; some are cut to fit above doorways. The vast selection at Caravati's also includes antique plain glass windows and elegantly carved banisters and mantles.
Rare vintage clothing items like boot-cut tuxedo pants, ruffly 70s shirts and neon tuxedo jackets are easy to find at Halcyon. From shabby chic to antique chic, the selection here is fantastic. Victorian, Art Deco and more contemporary periods are all well represented. Although several vendors in Richmond specialize in vintage clothing, Halcyon tends to have items of a higher quality at a lower price.
