"Authentic Arab Cuisine"
This kooky bakery has been doing brisk trade since it opened in 1913, with locals flocking here at lunchtime to enjoy excellent, reasonably priced Arab cuisine. The black and white decor is the result of a soccer-themed challenge between the two owners. One of the pair, Jordan, is a fan of local team Botafogo, while the other, Garrincha, roots for fierce rivals Flamengo. In 1962 they struck a deal - the bakery would be decorated in the colors of whichever team emerged victorious from the next derby match. Botafogo won, and Jordan gleefully painted Padaria Bassil in the colors of his beloved futebol team.
