"Oldest Synagogue"
Located in the archaeological site of Ostia Anitca, the Ostia Synagogue is one of the oldest synagogues to have been built in the entire wold and the oldest one to be discovered in all of Europe. It is believed to have been built during the first century AD. In its original form, the synagogue consisted of the main hall with its benches for people to sit on and a dining room where they congregated. A washbasin and well were located near the door to the synagogue which had a four-column gateway. Today, the structure lies in ruins but it is still worth taking a look at while exploring the ancient ruins of Ostia Antica.
